On the land
gathered friends,
brothers and sisters,
mothers, fathers, and children.
At sundown we disrobed
and crawled back into the womb.
With us came our grandfathers
and all our relations
following the trail of cedar.
The bear brought medicine
that sparkled like stars
and smelled like every possible comfort.
In the womb of our mother
we sang and prayed.
Breathing sacred water,
we suffered
for the world most have abandoned.
We traveled to the brink of death.
And then we crawled out,
wet from our rebirth.
