Rainbow asked me for an adventure,
so I led her to the most sacred places on this earth.
On the island at the center of the universe,
we found a door into a giant cottonwood.
Inside was warm silence,
a room
for drinking tea.
Just above the tree circled four young eagles, dancing
as we threw rocks into the river,
and watched them skip across its surface.
The cold wind chased us into the woods.
Rainbow gasped,
when we surprised four deer
who bounded to the east.
My body followed them,
down deer trails faint and winding,
until we arrived at the place where nature had been guiding us.
A room
of green grass and blinding sun,
warm from its shelter of trees on one side,
and on the other a mound,
forming a ridge to complete the circle.
We laid in the grass
and absorbed the incredible energy of the sun,
of this ancient circle,
and of the sacred water
given to us by the most ancient source.
