Leaf Riders (A Tale of Autumn) 17 October 2005

Between the wide bright blue and the gradational
flames, two elves instantly united for the
first of many adventures. The streets provided them
ornaments and satchels as they glided on cool air up
the well-worn and spiraling trail. In the wooded
sanctuary they spied on flame-orange mushrooms and
told stories beneath oak and sun. On the road home,
they were chased from the bog by a battalion of
rake-wielding boys. The two elves stopped along the way to gaze at
giant cottonwoods, the largest of which sparkled with
waves of energy, as did the whole surrounding woods.
The pair stood mesmerized at the dazzling dance of air, wood, water, and light. Beneath a bridge, the water projected waving illusions of sheer fabric and ghostly webs. At home, the magic words were spoken, opening the gates of golden friendship.
